Acting as architect of record, BDE Architecture oversaw the coordination, permitting and construction of The City Gardens Apartments. The project in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco consists of a 7-story plus residential project featuring 200 affordable-by-design units, in a mix of two and four bedrooms, in an urban infill location. Designed to encourage sustainable transportation methods, this is a zero-parking project. It has 125 on-site bike parking spaces, multiple bike repair stations, 2 large roof decks, lounges on floors 3-7 and a lobby lounge. The building’s simple architectural expression and consistent range of materials respects the area’s historically industrial context, which is home to many current or converted warehouses. Facades feature a combination of composite siding combined with metal finishes that are found throughout the surrounding neighborhood. The ground level is further accented with large pre-cast sloped concrete columns and warm wood tones.
